The Chelsea board have decided not to sack Graham Potter as manager despite cries from fans to do so after yet another embarrassing result at the weekend.
Potter’s side lost 1-0 at Stamford Bridge against Southampton, leaving them tenth in the Premier League and ten points behind Newcastle in fourth place.
After the loss, boos could be heard from sections of the stadium, with supporters showing their displeasure with Potter’s tenure.
However, chairman Todd Boehly is standing by his man and has reiterated his faith in Potter during this difficult period.
Last summer saw Boehly complete a takeover of Chelsea and he quickly made the decision to sack Thomas Tuchel despite winning three trophies during his 20-month spell, including the Champions League.
Potter was brought in for his success with Ostersunds and Swansea City, but he has failed to make an impact thus far at Stamford Bridge with just two Premier League wins since November.
After Saturday’s game, Potter sympathised with the fans’ critiques, stressing that integrating young players into the top flight can be difficult especially when results don’t go their way.
He will need to turn things around quickly if he wants to keep his job however, as their next game is a tricky trip away to Tottenham Hotspur in seven days’ time.
